MARABOUT DE SIDI TOUATI

On the road to Gouraya, on the heights of Bejaia, the tomb celebrates the memory of the founder Sidi Touati, in the 12th century, of a Muslim university open to students until the 19th century. The Koubba, or zaouïa, was a school that attracted many scientists from different parts of the world during the Hammadite period. Considered as a holy place, it served as a place of "atypical" pilgrimage. Today still, the zaouïa of the marabout of Sidi Touati remains a sacred place in the eyes of the population and often receives visitors.
