Sober "army gate" in Tlemcen, part of an ancient wall built to celebrate a victory.
Literally the "door of Thursday". It is a name borne by several fortified doors of medinas of the Maghreb, notably in Morocco. On the road to Sebdou, near the hospital of Tlemcen, the sober "army gate" is 9 m high, 4 m deep and 4.50 m wide. It was part of an ancient enclosure wall, but it may have been built to celebrate a victory or it may have been built during a siege. Its final destination is unclear. All that is known is that it was built under the Merinids.
