South of Jincheng and Chukuang Lou, the Wentai Pagoda was built at the beginning of the Ming Dynasty in 1387. Hexagonal, and built on five floors, it is quite small overall, but built in granite (and therefore surprisingly solid). It served as a landmark for sailors cruising off Kinmen, in the manner of a lighthouse. Today it is THE historical site of Kinmen, with a simple yet delicate interior and calligraphic works drawn by master Chen Hui, of the Ming dynasty (a name known to enthusiasts).
