A long island forming a jetty in Kaohsiung Harbour, formerly called Chienhou, Chichin has a 300-Year-Old Heritage. The island is connected by ferries to the other shore of the harbour. A few steps from the pier is the Rue des Fruits de Mer, which has an impressive number of restaurants. The temple of Tienhou is the oldest in Kaohsiung (1673), and like many temples on the seashore, it is dedicated to Matsu. The lighthouse of Chihou, built in 1883 by British engineers, is located next to the fortress of Chihou, whose cannons defend the port from the Qing dynasty. Descending south, near the Chichin des Mer de Mer, is the most beautiful beach in Kaohsiung, the beach of Chichin, set up in a seaside resort.
