Turtle Conservation Project (TCP) is a non-governmental organization that protects nesting sites, unlike local hatcheries that collect eggs and hatch them off the beach. The nearby Rekawa lagoon is a good place for sea turtles to lay their eggs. Here you can see five of the seven species present in Sri Lanka visiting the beach area. You have to be patient because, like any natural event, the arrival of the turtles does not take place at a fixed time. It is still rare not to see one.

Opening time and information on TURTLE WATCH REKAWA

Installation of a point of observation every evening of the year, from 8.30pm. Not appointment: Turtle Watch Visitor Center. End of waiting at 11.30pm if no arrival of tortoise is proven. Estimate amongst animals being able to be observed: in high season (April-July), 5 to 10 tortoises between laying down it and the sunrise; in low season (October-January), 1 to 2 tortoises between laying down it and the sunrise. Rates (only so of the tortoises are present): adult Rs1,000, child Rs500. Welcome gifts in all the cases.
