The Dimitile was a hotbed of marooning during the colonial era, and takes its name from a maroon chief. This knife-edge mountain range separates L'Entre-Deux from Cilaos, offering magnificent panoramic views of Cilaos and the south of the island from its summit (1,816 m altitude). It is home to a large forest with numerous hiking trails and 4 x 4 tracks. An ONF trail allows you to climb by 4 x 4 to the "balcony" in the forest and to the place known as "le Mal au Ventre" (but you must have authorization for the vehicle). On foot or by 4 x 4, it is possible to reach the summit. From here, it's a long hike back to the Plaine des Cafres.
