The Ljubljana Opera House, located in the Slovenian capital, is a must for opera and ballet lovers. Home to the National Opera and the Slovenian National Ballet, it offers a varied program of classical and contemporary performances. Every season, the orchestra, opera company and ballet company give around 150 performances in Slovenia and abroad, in collaboration with renowned producers and artists. Inaugurated in 1892, the opera house has a rich and eventful history. It first housed the German Theatre, then the Provincial Theatre. Sculptures by Alojz Gangl adorn the façade, depicting allegories of tragedy and comedy. For lovers of art and culture, the Ljubljana Opera House is a must-see on any visit to the city.
