The man who was to become Chinggis Khaan is supposed to have lived on the shores of this body of water, surrounded by forested mountains. The ruins of a stone ger with a diameter of 15 meters are still visible on the banks of the lake, and it is assumed that they mark the place where Temujin was proclaimed khan in 1189, at the beginning of his enterprise to unify all Mongolian clans. Not far from this first lake is a second one, the Khangal Nuur. This small lake of 1.5 km² hosts a ger camp where one can stay. It is here that the Mongolian territory is at its lowest: 550 meters above sea level.
