Outside the monastery, there are still two turtles today. Together with two other models, they tagged the limits of Kharkhorin. As a symbol of longevity, their mission was to protect the city. The nearest to the monastery is approximately 300 metres northwest of the exit. The second is more than one kilometre south of the monastery on a small hill.
