To the east of the small village of Orkhon, some twenty kilometers south of Bulgan, lies a site containing seven reindeer stones. Mongolia is home to more reindeer stones than any other country in the world. Archaeologists have found more than 1,500 throughout Eurasia, and Mongolia alone has more than 1,300. Their creation dates back to at least the 2nd century BC, during the Bronze Age. They are so named because of the reindeer carvings on them, and were probably used for ceremonies.
