Although it belongs to the Gandan monastery, the Gesar temple is not installed in its enclosure, but at least 250 meters away from its first door. It was erected in honor of the Tibetan king Gesar. This hero, who has inspired many poets, is the subject of an epic story in verse and prose composed over eight centuries ago called The Epic of King Gesar. The monks inside the temple are very friendly to strangers. Not much else to report except that the architecture is of Chinese inspiration.
