Still in operation in 2002, the Serra do Navio manganese mine is now abandoned. This American project was born in the 1950s and led to the construction of a railway and an American-style city in the middle of the Amazonian forest. The city was considered in its time as one of the most futuristic in Brazil. Paradoxically, people often come to Serra do Navio for its climate, which at certain times of the year is similar to that of other colder regions of the country, as it is located in a mountainous region. The landscape of the city and its surroundings becomes an attraction for visitors.
