This tiny town lies 270 km southwest of Macapá, on the border with Pará. In the 1960s, American billionaire Daniel Ludwig brought a pulp mill from Japan and set it up on the bank of the Jarí River on the Pará state side. A mushroom town on stilts on the Amapá side is still home to a population attracted by the work opportunities. Like Forlandia, this venture ended in failure in 1982, but it did put the place on the map. This vast territory became an independent municipality in 1987 with a slum-like appearance. A daily bus connects the town to Macapá (R$12).
