IGREJA MATRIZ DE SANTARÉM

Built in 1761 on the Praça José Gregório, the Cathedral of Nossa Senhora da Conceição is the successor, a hundred years later, to the city's first chapel, founded by Father João Bettendorff and located a little to the west of the present building. This beautiful church, the oldest in the city, took on its definitive form with the construction of the high altar and the installation of the new iron cross at the top of the church. In 1893, it was granted the title of cathedral.
