The last gateway to this northern part of the Pantanal, Cáceres is another charming little town on the left bank of the Rio Paraguay, 215 km from Cuiabà. There are many fishermen, all kinds of boats and some interesting remains of the colonial period, such as its old town centre. However, despite its position, Cáceres is not necessarily the ideal place to visit the Pantanal. You can easily take a boat trip on the Rio Paraguay and visit its many bays and lagoons, but the tourist infrastructure is more scarce. Cáceres becomes a world fishing spot in September, with nearly 200,000 fishermen.
