IGREJA DO BONFIM

Restored in 2012, this 1754 church is a fine example of Pirenopolis' colonial heritage. The Igreja do Bonfim is the most original church in Pirenópolis. It was built between 1750 and 1754, on the initiative of the sergeant-major Antônio José de Campos, who in 1755 brought from Bahia, in a train with 260 slaves, the image that is on the main altarpiece, the Jesus on his cross in carved wood. The local population often comes to ask Senhor do Bonfim for his blessing.
