PRAÇA DOIS DE JULHO - MONUMENTO AO DOIS DE JULHO

Inaugurated on 2 July 1895, it is the monument commemorating a very important date in the history of Salvador - the end of the siege of the city between Brazilians and Portuguese during the Brazilian War of Independence, on 2 July 1823 - located in the centre of the largest square in the city. It symbolizes the definitive conquest of the country's independence from Portugal, almost a year after the "cry of Ipiranga" of Dom Pedro, the future emperor.
