This curved church is one of the jewels of Minas, with its circular bell towers and carved soapstone ornaments.

Built in 1774, it is a magnificent work of art, remarkable for its stone and woodwork. It is the first work of the master Aleijadinho in curved lines, with its lyre-shaped forecourt, surrounded by a marble balustrade. Preceded by a majestic avenue of imperial palms, it is the city's postcard. With its circular bell towers and carved steatite ornaments, the church of São Francisco de Assis is one of the jewels of Minas.
