As between Ouro Preto and Mariana, this is an opportunity for a superb ride on a vintage train through the Serra São José. The railway museum at the station brings to life the history of the train throughout the world. The first Baldwin locomotive, used in the inaugural journey of the Estrada de Ferro Oeste e Minas in August 1881, is on display. This is a small excursion not to be missed: on the way to São João del Rei, remember to sit on the right side of the train, as this is where you will get the best view of the Serra!
