Church with paintings and azulejos, representing one of the symbols of contemporary Brazilian architecture.
"The Igreja de Pampulha is one of the symbols of contemporary Brazilian architecture, part of the Pampulha complex, a collaboration between Oscar Niemeyer, Portinari and Burle Marx. It was in 1943 that the project was implemented at the request of Juscelino Kubitschek. The church was not recognized until 1960. The figure of St. Francis is built with the rigor and balance of a statue. Portinari made the paintings of the sacred way and some azulejos.
