Neoclassical church with magnificent stone dome surrounded by 8 white marble statues
La Candelaria was originally a chapel erected in 1634 by a ship captain named Antonio Martins Palma, who had been rescued after suffering a heavy storm. The story of this is narrated on the ceiling of the church. It was inaugurated in 1811, in neoclassical style, in place of the old chapel. The stone dome by Lioz Abancado of Lisbon, surrounded by eight white marble statues, is magnificent, as are the bronze doors of the entrance to the church
