São Sebastião Metropolitan Cathedral with modernist architecture inspired by the Mayan pyramids of Yucatán
The São Sebastião Metropolitan Cathedral, whose modernist architecture is inspired by the Mayan pyramids of Yucatan, is a religious building of impressive dimensions (75 m high and 106 m in diameter). Inaugurated in 1976, it is one of the largest Catholic buildings in the world, with a capacity of 20,000 worshippers. The four interior stained glass windows, gigantic (60 m high) and superb, give the whole a serene and warm tone which contrasts with the exterior of the cathedral, austere and monolithic, with the architecture known as brutalist.

Une cathédrale originale
Cathédrale pour le moins originale, on ne s'attend pas à ça. Ce n'est pas ce que je préfère mais il en faut pour tous les gouts. Les vitraux intérieurs sont beaux. Si vous n'aimez pas l'art contemporain, sa visite n'est pas prioritaire.

Une cathédrale comme on en voit peu. Elle est immense et peut accueillir 20 000 fidèles. La lumière à l’intérieur est magnifique. Vraiment à voir!

Plutôt moderne, cet édifice religieux atypique au niveau architectural, peut surprendre. L'intérieur est immense, il semblerait que 20 000 personnes puissent assister aux offices.
