FESTAS JUNINAS

In June, all over Rio de Janeiro, these traditional country parties take place. The men wear jeans and plaid shirts; the girls wear flowered dresses with straw hats, braids and freckles on their cheeks. They eat typical country food and drink a mixture of cinnamon and hot cachaça. At the time of the "quadrille", a line of dancers forms in the center, where, in a row of onions, they begin a joyful and retro dance.
