Located between Pedra do Sal and Cais do Valongo, the Mecca of samba, the Trapiche Gamboa is a must to listen to the most authentic and original form of Brazilian music: the samba de roda. This "casa grande" (house of the masters) dates from 1857, in a neighborhood where slave ships landed the "ebony wood" until 1888, is today a beautiful and magical place that honors this music, with deep Afro-Brazilian roots. Great masters of samba have been performing there for many years.
