Rio's modern metro is extended by bus lines. The metro ticket is not returned after passing through the gate, except for day or week passes.

Line no. 1 (orange): from Ipanema (Osório) to Copacabana, Botafogo, Flamengo, Catete, Glória, downtown (to Central) then Estacio to Uruguaí in Tijuca.

Line no. 2 (green) leaves from Zone Nord (Pavuna), Maracanã and feria São Cristovão.

Line no. 3 (blue) is only at the planning stage.

The new line no. 4 (yellow) links the Barra da Tijuca district with Ipanema and Copacabana.

Getting around by bike

The idea of self-service bicycles has taken off. From now on, in Paris or Rio, you can get around by bike without having to go through the restrictive rental system in stores. You have to register on the website and then use your cell phone. It's true, this step can be a bit complicated, but we advise you to pay a monthly pass online (easier than by phone). Bikes are picked up and dropped off at defined points (especially in the South Zone where the bike paths are the most developed).
