The first underwater museum on the East African coast where the wreck of a 15th century Portuguese ship was found
The first underwater museum on the East African coast will welcome its visitors in 2022. It will be located in Ras Ngomeni, a fishing village north of Mombasa, near Malindi. It is there that the wreck of a Portuguese ship, dating from the 15th or 16th century, was found. More than thirty wrecks have been lying on the bottom of Kenyan waters (sometimes shallow) between Mombasa and the Lamu archipelago for nearly 600 years. In situ preservation has been favoured. The site will be reserved for divers, but some elements will also be visible on land.
