TREN MACHO

The famous "Tren Macho" runs 128 km through 38 tunnels and 11 bridges between Huancavelica and Huancayo. A train circulates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the direction Huancayo-Huancavelica, and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in the opposite direction. The departure is at 6:30 am. Count from S/ 9 to S/ 13 (with buffet service) per person. It's a 6 hour trip, but it's amazing and ridiculously cheap. There is regular talk of concessions, improvements, suspensions of service, so watch out. From 2012 to 2019 it was running and should resume in 2022.
