What is "Slow Tourism"?

Slow Tourism" appeared in the early 2000s and is based on 3 founding principles

• respect for the environment
• experiences in contact with the local population
• in-depth discovery of the visited regions

The official definition of Slow Tourism is as follows: "A slow-paced tourism, guaranteeing a renewal of the being, low CO² emission, synonymous with serenity, in-depth discoveries and improvement of cultural knowledge".

Derived from the Slow Food and Slow Life movements, Slow Tourism encourages you to slow down, to take the time to discover, to fully immerse yourself in the nature that surrounds you, to privilege encounters or to savor the pleasures of the local table.

Why adopt this concept?

Through the adoption of these three fundamental principles and the promotion of a slower discovery of the regions crossed, it is a new model of tourism and local development that we wish to form and spread. By stopping running and visiting less but better, our goal is to offer a more satisfying and qualitative experience for visitors as well as for local actors.

In addition, the practice of Slow Tourism allows for a better distribution of the benefits of tourism activity for the inhabitants of the region. Indeed, by going to sites preserved from mass tourism, you will be led to sleep in the homes of local people rather than in hotel chains and you will use drivers, guides and other independent service providers in the region.
