Mausoleum in Rome, one of the best preserved monuments of the Via Appia Antica.
Cecilia Metella was the wife of Crassus' son, who, along with Caesar and Pompey, formed the first triumvirate. Today, her mausoleum is one of the best-preserved monuments on the Via Appia Antica. A powerful masonry cylinder, it was built in 50 AD. Placed on a square base, it was transformed into a fortress in the Middle Ages. The entrance ticket, valid for three days, gives access to the sites of the Appia Antica Archaeological Park.
