A little higher than Monte, in the direction of Poiso, a esplanade delivers superb views of the bay and the Funchal amphitheater. A statue represents Zarco, the Discoverer. Inaugurated in 1912, Quinta Terreiro da Luta, commissioned by the director of the Monte de the epoch, is a Swiss-inspired chalet with wedding banquets, group meals and celebrations. Above, a monument, inaugurated in 1927, is dedicated to Our Lady of Peace (Nossa Senhora da Paz), built to thank the return of peace, following the bombing of Funchal by the German submarines in 1917.
