It is the gardens of the Quinta do Monte, renamed as such. Emperor Charles of Austria resided here during his exile (after the defeat of Austria in the First World War) in 1921, and died here the following year at the age of 34 of pneumonia. The estate is also called "Quinta Cossart" in honor of Leland Cossart, a British man who lived there. The estate is in a sorry state, but lovers of wild gardens will find a mysterious charm in this place.
