Central station inaugurated in 1851, remarkable for its architectural work and its exotic winter garden attracting birds

The central station, world-famous since the terrible attacks of 2004, remains an interesting architectural work to visit. Inaugurated in 1851, it was originally called the Estación de mediodía. Partly destroyed by fire, it was rebuilt according to Alberto Palacio's plans in 1890. The interior is surprising: in the heart of the station, an exotic winter garden - designed by Cesar Manrique - enjoys a year-round microclimate that attracts turtles, small birds and warm-hearted people from Madrid.

Une gare incroyable et constitue une visite à part entière. L'intérieur est doté d'une magnifique serre tropicale avec notamment des tortues sur un point d'eau. On peut également rejoindre d'autres villes d’Espagne depuis cette gare

Une belle curiosité pour une gare ! On s'y sent comme en vacances avec sa serre tropicale sans encore être parti de la ville. De plus, l'offre de destinations est intéressante et permet de joindre en grande vitesse de belles villes proches de Madrid dans un temps récord (Valencia, Cuenca, Toledo, Sevilla...). Elle est à côté du musée Reina Sofia.

L'extérieur en brique rouge et l'ossature en fer sont magnifiques. Le jardin exotique à l'intérieur est très original. Dommage que le décor soit un peu gâché par les exposants.
