Hotel offering very pleasant and fully equipped rooms, those on the 7th and 8th floors have balconies

On eight floors, the NH Nacional maintains the high standards of the NH Hoteles chain. All the rooms are very pleasant and perfectly equipped. On the seventh and eighth floors they even have balconies and the view is incredible. The hotel is located near the Atocha train station (only 150 metres away), Retiro Park and the famous museums of the Paseo del Arte. In short, the location is ideal for combining culture during the day with long nights of partying. The breakfast is excellent. A very nice address in the capital.

Ubicación privilegiada justo al lado de la Estación de Atocha. Personal de Recepción muy amable, especialmente Luis. Habitación muy limpia y acogedora. Desayuno muy completo. Sin duda una opción muy recomendable si visitas Madrid

We were able to check-in online and select our room in advance. Although we were early to check-in with front desk, the room we previously selected was not ready. I believe Luis at front desk was the person who assisted us. He suggested if we'd want the upgraded room for additional $20 a night which is ready. After hearing the suggestion and traveling all morning we took the offer. He mentioned that the additional upgrade has a good view and is more spacious.
Some reasons with the low star rating is due to the specific room they called an upgrade. The room had a great 180 view of the corner and was spacious, but because the room's windows were not sealed properly we heard every single commuter and tourist from five stories above. If the room had better sound proof I think our two nights stay would have been improved. When we inspected the windows, we noticed that the far right panel (which had the worst noise level as though the window was ajar the entire stay) had improvised foam to minimize noise. After seeing this it was obvious that they have encountered this situation and attempted to alleviate with a quick remedy. It is disappointing that the hotel still sold the room as an "upgrade" when the stay was closer to feeling downgraded.
Overall we enjoyed how clean the hotel is, that it was in close proximity to the transit, and parks. But instead, the additional upgrade was actually more than you've listed and was the most noisy stay during our vacation.
