PLACE ELEFTHERIA

Freedom Square (Πλατεία Ελευθερίας) is the focal point of Nicosia-South. It links Ledra Street (old town) with the circular boulevard (new town). At the end of a long project (2005-2021) steered by the prestigious Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid (1950-2016), the whole area has been redeveloped with a bridge, underground parking lot and public park that fit skilfully between the ramparts, moat and bastions of Avilla (town hall) and Tripoli (bus station). It's a great gathering place.
