AGIOS IRAKLIDIOS MONASTERY

This elegant Greek Orthodox monastery (Ιερά Μονή Αγίου Ηρακλειδίου/Iera Moni Agiou Iraklidiou) lies south of the village of Politiko/Πολιτικό, which is also home to the archaeological site of Tamassos. It was founded in the 6th^century as the burial place of Saint Heraclides of Tamassos, the first bishop of Cyprus at the end of the ^1st century. Rebuilt in 1773, the complex preserves frescoes from the 15th^and 16th^centuries . The nuns produce and sell honey, jams, etc. here.
