This stretch of land bordered by two small beaches is magnificent. It's one of the wildest spots in Cyprus, with no habitation for miles around. To the south, towards Cape Drepanon, Lara Bay is part of the Pegia State Forest (135 km2). To the north, the coastline belongs to the Akamas National Forest Park (230 km2). Hard constructions are forbidden, especially on the coast, as the beaches are protected nesting grounds for sea turtles (green and loggerhead). Swimming is permitted, however, and in summer there are even two cafés-restaurants near Cape Lara itself. The problem is that to get here, you either have to walk (under the Cypriot sun), or have a 4 x 4 (a conventional car risks getting bogged down). There's also the option of quad-biking, offered by some environmentally-conscious tour operators. But you can fall back on the large, wild and often stormy beach of Toxeftra. It lies 2.5 km north of Cape Drepanon and the end of the asphalt road.
