This village of 350 inhabitants is the most important on the Catlins' coast as most of the accommodations and points of interest are located in the area. Indeed, you will find illustrious places such as the Purakaunui and Pounawea waterfalls, the sensational view of Nugget Point, or the Jack Blowhole sea cave. It is also an opportunity to meet sea lions at Cannibal Bay, Surat Bay, Sandy Bay or penguins at Roaring Bay. Owaka means "the place of canoes" in Maori. It is true that there is plenty of paddling here! You can easily spend a few days here and do some activities.
