TOASTIE

Brand new to the waterfront, Toastie has the most transparent of names, but one that can seem a little opaque when you're not up on the local lingo. "Toastie" is short for "toasted sandwich". New Zealanders like to shorten words to "-ie". And we like toastie too; practical and inexpensive, good and unpretentious, it's one of the must-haves of local gastronomy. The store, facing the sea, is as cute as can be, and the range of recipes means there's something for everyone! Also makes good coffees.
