EAST BY WEST FERRIES

East by West allows you to cross the bay to visit the other side without having to take the loooong freeway that takes you all the way around the coast (not so long in reality, but potentially very busy and far less charming than a boat trip!). Days Bay and the town of Eastbourne have a charming seaside resort atmosphere and are well worth a visit when the weather's right. The ferry also takes you to Matiu/Somes Island, the small island in the middle of the bay once used as a quarantine station.
