THE FRINGE FESTIVAL

From mid-February to mid-March, the bars, restaurants, galleries, parks and streets of the capital welcome several hundred artists in fields ranging from cabaret to puppet shows, improv, music, dance or slam, for a series of 700 shows with a deliciously quirky taste!

Wellington is a city often described as "quirky", with a hint of quirkiness. The Fringe festival fits it like a glove.

Dunedin also hosts a Fringe festival from mid to late March.
