There are several hikes, ranging from forty-five minutes to several hours, through the beautiful Karangahake Gorge. The trails are very pleasant and pass through historic sites from the mining era and have been spectacularly landscaped by the Department Of Conservatin (DOC). Most of the trails begin in the northern part of the gorge. Hiking enthusiasts will want to make a stop here to enjoy the beauty of the peninsula. A torch is recommended for exploring the mining tunnels.
