WHANGAREI QUARRY GARDENS

Spread over more than 24 hectares, this former quarry has been transformed into a park where subtropical gardens can be enjoyed along several footpaths, encountering lakes, waterfalls, historical relics, forests and plants of many species. Northland's rainfall and sunshine confirm the region's subtropical nature: between 1,500 m and 2,000 mm of rain each year on average. The team of volunteers has been hard at work here for 40 years. The Quail Café is open Wednesday to Sunday, 9am to 3pm.
