Jijiga, 105 km from Harar, is an important administrative center where smuggling plays a significant role. Here begins the territory of the Somali, nomads living in the immense semi-desert plains of Harargue and Ogaden as far as neighboring Somalia. The town is of little interest to tourists. The asphalt road ends here, and a track continues to Hargeysa, the capital of the self-proclaimed republic of Somaliland, a region still officially Somali.A word of warning. As the region is politically very unstable, it is essential to find out about security conditions before travelling there.
