SUNDIAL (AIKŠTĖ LAIKRODŽIO AIKŠTĖ)

Located in the so-called "Sundial Square", this sundial is a monument not to be missed. It was placed there in 1986 on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Saulė (1236), in which the Samogitians defeated the Glacier Knights and founded the city. It occupies an area of 200^m2 and is topped by a bronze archer. The work highlights three symbols: the sun, the archer (Saulys), which gave its name to the city, and the passing of time.
