A slightly off-center visit to downtown Kaunas. From this hill, Napoleon and his troops watched for the advance of the enemy, who were preparing their attack on the Imperial Russian Army by crossing the river Niemen below. Every June, Kaunas commemorates the arrival of Napoleon the Liberator in memory of that famous June 1812. Practicalities: the free site is open all year round. To get there by public transport, take bus no. 22 or 47 near Kaunas Castle and get off at the Gelešinkelio Pervaša stop.
