FORMER JEWISH GHETTO (KOVNO GHETTO)

The former Jewish ghetto, Kovno Ghetto, is located in the Vilijampolė (formerly Slobodka) district, on the opposite bank of the Neris River, opposite the Old Town. It is bounded by Paneriu, Jubarko and Demokratu streets. It was in operation until 1944. There is a memorial on Kriščiukaičio, on the corner between Ariogalos and Linkuvos streets.

In the summer of 1941, the Nazis locked up the Jews in this ghetto, formerly called Slobodka ghetto.
