This peaceful small town is located 37 miles south of Natchez, near the border with Louisiana, among the hills and pastures of Wilkinson's county. It was established in 1811, after the purchase of Louisiana (1803) and shortly before the entry of Mississippi into the Union (1817). Jefferson Davis, the future president of Confederation, lived a few years of his childhood in the Rosemont Plantation, one mile away.
