Church of reference to the chain of closure of the old port adjacent to the Cala enjoying a Gothic-Catalan facade
The name of this church, catena meaning "chain" in Italian, is a reference to the closing chain of the old port next to La Cala. Built at the end of the 15th century, its Gothic-Catalan facade is raised at the top of a staircase with three portals sculpted by Vicenzo Gagini. It has an original flat roof. The interior, in Gothic and Renaissance style, has the typical three-nave plan. The chapel on the right houses the remains of a superb fresco of the Virgin.

L'Eglise de Santa Maria della Catena est une belle petite église située près du port de Cala, le plus antique port de Palerme. De style gothique et Renaissance, elle possède une façade surélevée qui la rend originale ; c'est cela qui a attiré mon attention en premier.
