Situated in a triangle bounded by Makerere Hill, Bombo and Sir Apollo Kaggwa streets, the prestigious Makerere University, founded in 1922, is a pleasant place to stroll. Its approximately 35,000 students wander the 350 acres of campus, a haven of tranquility where they can study at a relaxed pace. Punctuated by some interesting buildings, most notably the Main Hall, this institution, where some of the continent's great writers taught, was the alma mater of several African heads of state.
