NATIONAL MUSEUM
Founded in 1908, the Uganda Museum is the oldest museum in East Africa. The museum is divided into different sections dedicated to science and industry, ethnography, natural history, traditional music... During your wander, you will be able to contemplate customary clothes and ornaments, soga and Hutu shields, typical bark cloth, acholi and karamojong head rests, Karamoja sandals made of elephant leather, pottery, vegetable fibre baskets, an old Ford T and traditional musical instruments. You can also read about archaeological sites dating back to the Stone Age, African tea, the hydrocarbons of the Albertine Graben (section remodelled in 2015), Uganda's mining industry, the Olympic Games and in particular the two gold medal winners Stephen Kiprotich (London 2012 Olympic marathon) and John Akii-Bua (Munich 1972 Olympic 400 metre hurdles), the "head of Luzira" (a terra cotta woman's head about 1,000 years old, discovered at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s by a British geologist in Luzira and now kept in the British Museum in London), the discovery of the fossilized remains of the "Napak rhinoceros" (dating from 19 to 20 million years ago) and the different types of artisanal beers consumed in the country...
